Former Councillor Running for Another Term
Mariane McLeod served on Collingwood Town Council from 2018-2022 and is running for another term.
“The last four years, I have remained busy in the community. I have been Chair of the Collingwood Public Library Board, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Sports Hall of Fame. I volunteer on the Board of Directors for the Curling Club and help run the Junior Instructional program there.”
In 2022, McLeod had an enthusiastic but ultimately unsuccessful bid for the position of Mayor. “The disappointing results of the election didn’t deter me from helping out,” she says.
McLeod has been working as a professor at Georgian College in Barrie and Midland, teaching courses in communications and entrepreneurship. Before her time on council, McLeod spent 20 years as a radio journalist on 680News and 97.7 The Beach.
McLeod says the biggest issue facing Collingwood right now is the sheer volume of decisions that need to be made.
“Collingwood needs a council whose focus is making responsible and informed choices about the path we’re going to take,” McLeod says. “While we now have sites chosen for the MURF and the hospital, both big issues from the time I served, there are many items coming our way, including the town’s transportation and other necessary physical and cultural infrastructure. I have energy, experience and enthusiasm. I would be happy to bring my insights and love for Collingwood to the council table again.”
